How it all began
When Kasey first brought a piano into her home several years ago, her oldest son surprised her by playing songs by ear within a week! He could play the Mario theme song, Happy Birthday, and some of Kasey’s favorite hymns.
Kasey was ecstatic! Her thought was that he would excel quickly if he could learn to read music. Kasey began her hunt for a beginner book about the basics of note reading. To her disappointment, there wasn’t a fun, beginner book that laid out the basics.
Over the next few years, in the midst of being a stay-at-home mom of two, and then three children, she wrote a poem about where to find the notes on the piano and on the staff. Later, she also started sketching how the notes could look with illustrations and personality.
Kasey’s friend, the wonderfully talented Debbie Lechowit, who is also a stay-at-home mom of three, turned her poem and simple sketches into a delightful read with playful and professional artwork.
Now, they have a beautiful teaching tool: a book that lays the foundation of note reading for elementary piano students.
